About

The History of Theta Tau

Theta Tau is the oldest, largest, and foremost Fraternity for Engineers. Since its founding at the University of Minnesota in 1904, over 40,000 brothers have been initiated over the years. With emphasis on quality and a strong fraternal bond, the Fraternity has chapters only at ABET (American Board for Engineering & Technology) accredited schools.

The purpose of Theta Tau is to develop and maintain a high standard of professional interest among its members, and to unite them in a strong bond of fraternal fellowship.

We unite a diverse community of engineers and engineering students from around the country in fraternal fellowship, professional development, and service to our communities.

Kappa Beta Chapter Founding

Kappa Beta Chapter was formed by charter members from the University of Alabama. Kappa Beta received its charter on November 21, 1964 and has grown into the most prestigious chapter in the nation, winning the Schrader Best Chapter Award for a record seven times.

Our Pillars

At the core of Theta Tau lies a commitment to values that shape not only exceptional engineers but also outstanding individuals. These guiding principles unite us as a brotherhood, driving our dedication to professional excellence, personal growth, and lifelong connections.

Brotherhood

Brotherhood is the foundation of our chapter, and we take pride in building strong, lasting bonds among our members. Whether it’s through themed socials, intramural sports, game nights, tailgating, or retreats, we create opportunities for camaraderie and connection beyond the classroom. Our shared experiences bring us closer together, fostering a supportive community where everyone feels like family.

Service is at the heart of what we do, and our chapter is committed to giving back to the community in meaningful ways. From volunteering at the West Point Animal Shelter and organizing canned food drives to supporting Habitat for Humanity and the Palmer Home, we strive to make a positive impact. Whether it’s cleaning up local parks, working with the Boys and Girls Club, or lending a helping hand wherever needed, our members are dedicated to making a difference.

Professional Development

Professional development is a cornerstone of our chapter, and we provide our members with opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. Through initiatives like Theta Talks, a TEDx-style event, and guest speaker sessions, we inspire innovation and learning. We also host career preparation workshops, etiquette dinners, and team-building exercises to equip our members with the skills they need to succeed. From personal development activities to attending impactful speaker events, we ensure our members are prepared to excel in their careers and beyond.
